About TASA
A local organization carrying a national idea
Templeton Area Sports Association makes sport and water safety reachable for under-resourced youth on California's Central Coast. We make sure the cost of taking part is never the reason a child is left out.
We work at Templeton Tennis Ranch, where we have access to courts, a pool and experienced instructors at well below what they would cost elsewhere. That arrangement is the whole reason a small organization can reach a lot of children quickly. Templeton Tennis Ranch is owned by TASA's founder. It is a related-party arrangement, it is the reason our costs are what they are, and it belongs on this page rather than in a footnote.
TASA is an approved National Junior Tennis & Learning chapter of the USTA Foundation - the program founded in 1969 by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder on a simple premise: tennis is a way to reach a child, and to enhance their potential off the court as much as on. We are the only such chapter on California's Central Coast.
That is why our programs do not stop at the baseline. Swimming and water-safety instruction, and financial education and academic help for our older students, are the learning half of what we do - and they are the reason a tennis nonprofit teaches a sixteen-year-old to read a bank statement.
What a child takes away is not only a forehand
Sport is where a person first learns to be beaten by someone better, shake their hand and go back to work. That is the core of what we do, not a by-product of it.
If a child's talent could take them further, we don't want the family's budget to be the thing that stops them.
